India frees 43 Pak prisoners

A sigh of relief came for 43 Pakistan prisoners, as the Indian authorities set them free for their homeland on Saturday.

A sigh of relief came for 43 Pakistan prisoners, as the Indian authorities set them free for their homeland on Saturday. They were set en route home via the Wagah road. Out of the total count, 33 were civilians while the remaining 10 were fishermen.

As per the official details, the detainees were languishing different jails in the states of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. A majority of them had been arrested on the charges of crossing into the Indian territory illegally.

But as they gathered for their release, there eyes glowed with a ray of hope.

“It has been a long wait before going home. I crossed into India illegally through Jammu and Kashmir and was awarded a punishment of 1.5 years. But I am going back to my country after 11.5 years,” said Abdul Rashid.

It is pertinent to note that the prisoners released mostly complained of being made to over stay in India, despite the fact that their jail terms had ended earlier.
