India is a safe destination for expatriate Indians, Home Minister Shivraj Patil has said.
Calling upon the overseas Indian community not to hold apprehensions relating to personal safety and security, the Home Minister said that India would be as effective as any other country in the world in ensuring their protection.
India is as safe as any part of the world and we are duty bound to provide security to all those who come to the country, Patil told a gathering of NRIs/PIOs at the ongoing Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas on Monday. The risk involved in carrying out activities in India is definitely not going to be more than what it is in other parts of the world, he asserted.
"India as a happening place" was the theme of the subject that the Minister was speaking on, when he made these comments. Seeking assistance from overseas Indians in the field of electronic hardware, he said that India provided abundant investment opportunities in the fields of electronic and genetic engineering - stating that the sky was the limit for development and cooperation in these sectors and that a synergy of genetic wealth and genetic science could bring about a revolution. He also articulated the idea of cooperation between overseas Indians and the government in the field of ocean bed energy.
Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, speaking earlier, invited investments from expatriate Indians in the farm sector and said that joint models of private-public partnership could be jointly evolved.
