The Border Security Force on Monday lodged a strong protest with Pakistani rangers over the recent firing of rockets into the Indian territory from across the border.
At the flag meeting between border guards of the two countries, Pakistan was told to restrain from carrying out any "unwanted" activity from its territory, BSF IG Himmat Singh told PTI.
"India will reply effectively and strongly if anything happens like what had taken place on January nine (firing of rockets from the Pakistani side)," he said.
At the meeting, Pakistan denied that any rocket was fired from its territory, but assured the BSF that it would investigate the matter, the IG said.
On the firing by the BSF, he said, "we told Pakistan that it was a retaliatory action. The BSF never fired on Pak rangers. The firing was directed towards the area from where the rockets were coming."
Five rockets were fired from the across the border on villages in this border area here on the intervening night of January 8-9.
