India should send-off Dravid with a win

India have come to Cardiff to play the last match of the series. It is a university city where students from world over come for higher education. It is also the home of Glamorgan County club where I spent a season. It’s a new Test venue but a lot of ODI’s have been played. The series has already been decided and the boys must be waiting to head back home. But they must remember it’s still an international game and they haven’t won one on the tour.
India have a bigger reason to feel pumped up. This is the last time Rahul Dravid will come out in coloured clothes for India and it will be great to finish off with a win to give him a fitting send-off. I know victory in any sport doesn’t happen by emotion but at least the extra effort from the boys must be there. The Indian team hopefully will give Varun Aaron a chance and find out how good he is as there is lot of cricket coming up.
It will not be an ODI series for him to remember. He was in terrific form in Tests but couldn’t carry that in the one-dayers. He has been a great cricketer even in this format.
Rahul has had a chequered one-day career and it took a new turn once he decided to keep wicket in 2002. His decision was absolutely for the team as it helped reorganise the middle-order and add more depth to it. Indian cricket should be thankful to Rahul for that. The difference in his game before and after he kept wicket can be easily made out, though one doesn’t need to judge Rahul by the records as he has been a great soldier of Indian cricket.
