India will soon establish diplomatic relations with Niue in the South Pacific. With that it will have ties with every single one of the 193 sovereign countries in the world.
Niue is the globe’s smallest self-governing nation, with a population of 2,000.
There are plans to expand India’s diplomatic core. Currently the US has 16 times as many diplomats as India does, China eight times as many, Japan, seven times.
The plan envisages adding 32 new officers and 20 other members to the diplomats’ core. With the rising need for specialisation, 12 entrants will be experts on deputation.
