Indian musicians would participate in World Music Festival in July next year in Malaysia.
Penang would host the festival in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 (VMY07).
It will be first time that the World Music Festival, known as the Rainforest World Music Festival, is held outside Sarawak.
Musicians from Brazil, Germany, and Brunei have confirmed participation and more countries are expected to sign up.
State Tourism Development and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said hosting the concert comes as a bonus for Penang's tourism industry as it would generate good business.
The date for the concert, however, is yet to be fixed.
"Several sectors will benefit from this concert and we will do our best to get tourists to stay and shop in Penang during Visit Malaysia Year 2007," Teng told reporters after opening the national orchid exhibition 2006 here yesterday.
Penang was chosen by the Tourism Ministry to host the concert which is expected to cost RM1.5 million to organise, he said adding that the Botanical Garden had been proposed as the venue.
The World Music Festival is a unique concert where musicians who come from all over the world use environment-friendly instruments to make good music.
Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Madagascar, Mali, South Korea, Turkey, Austria, France, Scotland and Canada have participated in earlier concerts.
