To strike the second biggest deal ever struck by an Indian firm, telecommunication technology outfit Vavasi and Malaysia-based Al Bukhary has formed a consortium to take over the $7.5-billion (Rs 36,000 crore) Kuwait-based telecom service provider, Zain.

Who they are

-- Zain operates telecom services in 24 countries and had over 69.5 million subscribers as on July 31, 2009

-- Vavasi, a diversified Indian company, is setting up a silicon- manufacturing project in Rajasthan

-- Malaysia’s Al Bukary group, with assets of more than $10 billion (Rs 48,000 crore) is the world’s third-largest edible oil producer
