INDIAN NAVY today joined the list of defeated teams after losing against Jhansi Railway in the 31st Udai-Iftekhar All India Cricket Tournament being organised at Bab-e-Aali Stadium. Indian Navy Sonnet Club and St Michael’s Cricket Academy (SMCA) were the three major teams that tasted defeat this time.

Aris Alam of Jhansi was declared ‘HT Man of the Match’. The eighth day of the tournament, however, saw low total by the team batting first. Jhansi team invited Indian Navy to bat first despite knowing that the wicket was helping batsmen.

The splendid bowling attack by Rajesh Gupta of Jhansi saw the upper order struggling to score runs. Such was his lethal bowling that the first three batsmen, including Narendra Kumar, Tahir Khan and Rajat Goswami, returned to pavilion after scoring 0, 4 and 7 runs, respectively. The Navy lost seven batsmen at the score of just 108 runs.

Once again, tail enders brought the team back in the match. Sanjeev Mishra and Sachin Nadkarni played their role by scoring 47 and 37 runs, respectively. Amrinder contributed 28 runs.

The team that was struggling to score 125 runs managed score 175 runs total. Rajat Goswami of Jhansi claimed three wickets.

Jhansi openers followed the upper order of Indian Navy as the team lost three wickets for just 29 runs. But Aris Alam’s 89 runs scripted six-wicket win for Jhansi in 40 overs.

Senior cricketer from the City, Pradeep Deshmukh, awarded the ‘HT Man of the Match’ trophy to Aris Alam.
