It seems wedding tourism is set to become the next big thing in India, now that Russell Brand-Kate Perry are happily honeymooning in Maldives.
They seem to have attracted a lot of bad press too, with some spoilsports alleging that they smoked, drank and carried arms on the tiger safari, flouting the rules.
Seriously, did anyone think that the Hollywood duo would carry the green rulebook around in the safari so that they do not veer from the straight and narrow path?
They also played loud music and illuminated the resort, disturbing the tigers at the Ranthambhore reserve...
As if the Big Cats (if there are any left) religiously go to bed at 10 pm every night and cannot tolerate a little romp on the side. You should be thankful that after the bad publicity surrounding the Commonwealth Games, Brand-Perry gave Brand India a thumbs up by their brazen fascination with all things Indian.
But they also faked a medical emergency to get a chopper to airlift them to Jaipur.
When, had you remained true to your ‘atithi devo bhava’ tradition and got the red carpet rolling, they would not need to resort to such underhand tactics and embrace the very Indian ideal of cocking a snook at the law.
Do say: With henna and horses, our soft power will win us the world.
Don’t say: Now that Brand, Perry and their friends are out of India, how will they be prosecuted?
