Indian student shot dead for a mobile in the US
In a case of mugging gone bad, a student from Hyderabad was shot dead by assailants who demanded that he give them the mobile phone.
A 23-year-old student from Hyderabad was shot dead by unidentified men who tried to rob him in the US city of Miami, his family has said.
The men, suspected to be robbers, fired four rounds at Sai Kiran Goud around 12 15pm on Sunday after he refused to hand over his mobile phone to the assailants. He died instantly.
Goud had gone to the US about a month ago and was pursuing his masters in a university in Miami, Florida. He was waylaid by the men near his home while he was speaking on the phone.
"We received information from his friends that some people demanded his phone on which he was already talking. His friend on the other end of the call heard four rounds of gunshots being fired. We are awaiting more details," his uncle Shravan Kumar told PTI.
The news shocked Goud’s parents and other relatives. A pall of gloom descended on the residence of the youth in Kushaiguda area of Hyderabad.
Goud’s family appealed to the Telangana and central governments to help bring his body home.
