Indian students' feat at int'l Olympiad

A student from Indore has won a gold medal at the 38th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Gyeongsan, Korea, according to Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai.

Prathmesh Prabhu, who is also a merit ranker in IIT-JEE, was followed by Omkar P Wagh and Rahul Goyal of Ambala, who won silver and Rahul Sharma of Delhi who bagged a bronze.

The Olympiad was held from July 2-11, Olympiad coordinator Vijay Singh said. Prabhu, Wagh and Goyal have joined IIT Mumbai this year while Sharma joined IIT Delhi, Singh said, adding that all the four boys ranked among top 100 JEE candidates.

A total of 67 countries with 255 contestants participated in the event for young meritorious students in Chemistry. In terms of medals tally, India was ranked eighth, he said.

The four-student team was led by Prof Shridhar R Gadre from the University of Pune and Dr Lakshmy Ravishankar from V G Vaze College in Mumbai.
