The 600,000-strong Indian community in Oman celebrated India's Republic Day with great fanfare.
The main function was held at the newly built chancery in the diplomatic enclave in Muscat where Indian ambassador Anil Wadhwa read out President Pratibha Patil's message.
Wadhwa said the Indian business community in Oman had been playing a key role in strengthening relations between the two countries. He also hoisted the tricolour at the Indian School.
