Low-cost carrier IndiGo was the most efficient in terms of sticking to flight schedules in June, beating bigger carriers such as Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Air India, according to official data released on Monday.

IndiGo scored 87 percent, while Jet Airways was slightly behind at 86.4 percent and Kingfisher with 83 percent, official data released by the civil aviation ministry said.

National carrier Air India was way behind scoring 75.7 percent.

Paramount Airways, which topped the efficiency chart in terms of departures in May scoring 89 percent, was not included this time due to ambiguity in figures it had furnished, a ministry statement said.

"The overall on-time performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of June 2009 has been 81.6 percent excluding Paramount Airways," the statement said.

Low cost carriers SpiceJet and MDLR Airlines were the least efficient, scoring 76.9 percent and 67 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, low cost carriers like GoAir and Jet's low-cost arm JetLite scored 83.4 percent and 80.4 percent, respectively.

The cancellation of domestic departures in June this year was 1.8 percent. However, the cancellation rate of Paramount Airways was the highest and well above the industry average at around 16 percent.

"Out of 16 percent of its cancellations, about 15 percent had been due to technical reasons and remaining 1 percent due commercial," the statement said.

Jet Airways had the second highest number of flights cancelled, followed by MDLR, JetLite, Kingfisher and Air India.
