THERE ARE hosts of police websites if one trawls through the net but the Indore police is claiming their website is one with a difference, comprising features hitherto not available elsewhere.

Formally launched on Friday, the website www.indorepolice.org has the online facility to lodge a complaint and also find out the status of the complaint. All the users have to do is to click on ‘inquiry’ under the Services column and put in the ID provided to you and the status of the investigation of the case you are interested in would be sent to you on your e-mail.

You can always use the website to inform the police about any unlawful activity that is going on in your area without taking the trouble of going to the police station.

There is also a list of stolen vehicles, which you might want to check before buying a second-hand vehicle, to prevent being palmed off a stolen vehicle. Launching the website, SP Anshuman Yadav said that the data will be updated regularly and a very senior officer would monitor website.

The local version of the rouges gallery is also there in the website, go through it just to see whether anyone you know figures in it! Jokes apart, you really just might spot someone roaming around in your area who is listed as absconding in the website.

For those who are really interested about the crime in city on a daily basis – no need to depend on newspapers and television – you can get the basic information in the DSR (Daily Situation Report) which would be uploaded daily. You can get an overall view of the number of murders, loots, dacoities, rapes, thefts, etc that took place in the city in the last 24 hours. SP Yadav said that this is perhaps the first time in Madhya Pradesh that they are uploading DSR for public viewing.

There is also a section of Missing Persons and bodies that are lying unidentified. Though the website one can register one’s hostel, inform police about their tenants, the mandatory registration by foreigners can also be done through the website. In all, a website worth a visit, if you are feel you belong to the city.
