A BSF personnel was killed when the security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district on Tuesday, leading to a gunbattle between the two sides, official sources said.

A group of militants infiltrated into the Indian territory from across the border in Doba Dacha Doke forward area of Sabzian belt of the district early on Tuesday, following a gunbattle between the ultras and the BSF troops, they said.

Head Constable Bhawanar Singh of 199 battalion of BSF was killed during the encounter, they said, adding the ultras managed to escape.

This is the second infiltration bid by the militants in the area during the past three days.

On January 20, an infiltration bid was foiled by the BSF troops in the area, leading to injuries to one of its jawan.
