Infosys Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy is recuperating after a "small accident" resulting in bruises and had been advised to cut down on his hectic travel schedules, a top company official said today.

Murthy, an icon of the Indian software industry, was slated to deliver keynote address at an innovation convention,
organised by the IIT Kanpur Alumni Association as part of golden jubilee celebrations of its alma mater, here today.

But an alumnus of the IITK, he skipped the event, being organised in his hometown, where the software major listed on
the NASDAQ is headquartered.
Infosys CEO, S Gopalakrishnan, stepped in on his behalf and delivered the talk.

Gopalakrishnan said Murthy is recuperating from a "small accident" he had. "Nothing major", he said, adding, the
doctors have advised him to reduce travelling.

When asked by reporters later, he said Murthy had "some small bruises". "Nothing much. Doctors advised him not to
travel".

The "small accident" happened a couple of weeks ago, he said but did not elaborate.

"He (Murthy) went to Europe; he travels like crazy. He was supposed to come back here and go back to Europe. Doctors said don't keep travelling", Gopalakrishnan said.

According to company officials, Murthy, who is on the board of several companies and delivers lectures at overseas
universities, travels a lot and is generally outside the country for more than 20 days in a month.
