Infy identifies next gen leaders
The software major has identified 45 executives who will form part of its top management, report Venkatesh Ganesh and Sabarinath M.india Updated: May 17, 2006 00:32 IST
When Narayana Murthy stepped down as MD of Infosys in 2004, Nandan Nilekani was the obvious choice for the top post. Now, it’s Nilekani’s turn to choose.
The software major, which has metamorphosed into a global corporation under Nilekani’s leadership, has taken the first step by identifying 45 executives who will form part of its top management. These execs, belonging to tier-1 of the management council constituted for identifying future leaders, are mainly heads of divisions in Infy and its subsidiary Progeon, a BPO.
Executives like Progeon head Amitabh Choudhary, CFO V. Balakrishnan, head (banking software solutions) Merwin Fernandes, head (European operations) B.G. Srinivas, head (retail and consumer products group) Pravin Rao, head (HR) Bikramjit Maitra and head (domain expertise) M.D. Ranganath could figure in the list, sources said. Infosys is expected to formally announce the names before its AGM on June 20.
In addition to existing functions, these executives will be involved in decision-making processes. As a first step, some of them have already been inducted on to the boards of subsidiaries. For instance, Balakrishnan has been inducted into the boards of Infosys Australia and Infosys Consulting.
Infosys started a leadership institute in 2001 to identify future leaders. “The process has taken a definitive shape now. Our businesses are growing and it’s time to empower the next generation,” said Mohandas Pai, head of HR.
