A Dalit woman was gangraped and murdered on April 18 in Jehangirpur area.
The crime is being seen as a revenge killing perpetrated by one Sudesh Sharma, the father of a girl who had eloped with the son of one Kuldeep Singh who is from a different caste. The Dalit woman and her husband worked for Singh. This was revealed after four of the accused were arrested on Saturday.
The gangrape and murder had apparently been planned by Sharma who had wanted to pin the crime on the Singh family. Sharma and his five accomplices, with who he had executed his plan, have been arrested.
“On April 18, the woman’s body was recovered from a well in Chingravli village under Jehangirpur police area. Investigations revealed that she was Dalit woman who worked with her husband in Kuldeep Singh’s fields,” said Shailendra Lal, DSP.
“Further investigations revealed that one Sudesh Sharma’s daughter had eloped with Kuldeep’s son. Though later the girl had returned home but the girl’s father had hatched the plan to take revenge from the Singh family,” said Lal.
“Sudesh’s neighbour Nanda and his worker Sonu were also involved in the plan. Sonu also roped in two of his friends Rinku and Het Prakash. These four persons raped the woman and later strangulated her to death and dumped the body in Singh’s well,” said Lal.
“Sonu, Rinku and Nanda were arrested on Saturday. Their detailed interrogation revealed the cause of rape and murder. Sudesh and Sonu were arrested earlier. Though at that time they had pled innocence, now they too have confessed to the crime,” said Lal.
