Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday held a high level meeting with top intelligence officials to strengthen the setup.
The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser and chiefs of Intelligence Bureau, Joint Intelligence Committee, Research and Analysis Wing, home secretary and Raman Srivastava, who took charge as Special Secretary (Internal Security) yesterday.
The Cabinet Committee on Security had earlier in the day had its first meeting after the audacious terror attack in Mumbai that killed more than 180 people.
The CCS was convened to discuss continuing defence purchases and take up the home ministry's proposal for raising the strength of the National Security Guard. Sources said the NSG proposal was put off for a later date after the proposal was examined and cleared by the new home minister.
