The three-member panel of interlocutors led by journalist Dileep Padgaonkar would begin holding a "sustained uninterrupted dialogue" with the people of J&K from Tuesday, beginning with a meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Chidambaram had appointed the panel of interlocutors last week to help the government figure out the confidence building measures.

"We are meeting the Home Minister tomorrow to be briefed about the mandate that the group would be pursuing," said Padgaonkar. The other interlocutors are Central Information Commissioner Prof. MM Ansari and Prof. Radha Kumar of the think-tank, Delhi Policy Group,

Kashmiri separatists had criticised the panel, suggesting the absence of a politician in the panel indicated the non-serious approach of the government.

Padgaonkar suggested the group wasn’t disheartened at the criticism. He, however, emphasised that their terms of reference did not restrict what they discuss. "We will discuss anything… every issue that is brought on the table," he said.

"We are going to address the entire range of issues… if a political issue is brought to the table, we will discuss that too. We are not going to shy away from discussing any subject," he said. He emphasised the group was interested in resolution of the issue.
