Keeping in mind the state assembly polls scheduled in December 2012, the Gujarat government, in a major reshuffle in the police set up, has transferred 52 IPS officials including police commissioners of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. Transfers orders were issued on late Monday night by the state home department.

Shivanand Jha, police commissioner Surat, has been made additional DG (law & order and state IB) in Gandhinagar. Besides, secretary in the state home department TS Bisht has been shifted to the state police housing as executive director while Ahmedabad range Inspector General (IG) Ashish Bhatia has replaced Bisht at the secretariat in the home department.
The reshuffle has also seen transfer of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gandhinagar, Anand, Ahmedabad rural, Surat rural, Dahot, Panchmahal, Kheda, Navsari, Dangs, Narmada and Patan besides range IGs of Ahmedabad, Surat, Junagadh and Rajkot.
Rajkot range IG Manoj Shashidhar has been posted as head of Gujarat anti terrorist squad (ATS) from where present incumbent Ajay Tomar has been shifted to Ahmedabad city as joint police commissioner sector I.
The transfers in the state police set up were long pending and were expected, as many cops had already served more than three years in their present postings.
