IRANI CLUB has entered the next round defeating Raisen Club by 45 runs on Wednesday in the All India Mayank Chaturvedi memorial cricket tournament being organised at Old Campion grounds.
Irani Club, studded with the players like Abid Ali, opted to bat first after winning the toss. Playing according the expectations, Abid Ali scored runs liberally. His quick fire innings could be gauged from the fact that, out of a total of 91, he scored 76 runs through sixes and fours. However, he failed to complete century as he was caught at his individual score of 91 runs. Other batsmen also supported his innings.
Helped by some good batting, Irani Club scored 293 runs in the stipulated 50 overs after losing all wickets. Vijay Namdeo, Farhan Khan and Kashif Khan claimed two wickets each.
Chasing the target, Raisen team suffered early reverses as they lost two wickets at the score of only 41 runs. But they bounced back in the match, as Haseeb Khan and Mukesh Raikwar played sensibly and scored runs with the required run rate. When the batsmen were comfortable with the red cherry, a misjudged decision to steal a run saw loss of Mukesh’s wicket. He was run out at the individual score of 50.
His departure brought problems to the Raisen as the team fell short by 41 runs from the target. Though Vijay Namdeo endeavoured to restrict the regular fall of fall of wickets, the casual batting from other batsmen frustrated him.
He scored 41 runs. Irani Club was all out for 248 runs.
Secretary Rajiv Gandhi College Sajid Ali presented HT Man of the Match trophy to Abid Ali. Organising secretary Sushil Singh, LS Gill, Rakesh Rajoria and others were present.
