More than 12 children were admitted to Indira Gandhi Multi Speciality Hospital when they fell ill after consuming iron pills in Government High School in Kasan village of the district on Thursday.

Cause of children's illness could possibly be consumption of iron pills with empty stomach, a doctor said.

Iron pills were given to 45 children of whom a few fell ill after going home. They started feeling giddy and complained of stomach pain and headache and a few of them also started vomiting.

When some of the ailing children failed to recover till Thursday morning, their parents informed the school authorities. The school headmaster then informed the health department officials.
Deputy commissioner NK Solanki said investigations indicated that children showed reaction after consuming iron pills.

A few of them might have got ill on psychological grounds after seeing other children vomiting, Solakni said.

Proper care of children was being taken and they were all recovering, the deputy commissioner said.

The deputy commissioner asked the civil surgeon to visit the village and give instructions to all concerned so that such incidents do not recur.

Solakni said the health department would advise the school authorities to give iron pills with lemon water to children in future.
