india Updated: Oct 13, 2006 00:15 IST

This ward gets five out of ten. Raja Bazar ward covers old city areas like Medical College Road, Sawai Tola, Chidia Bazar, Pattal wali Gali, Kashyap Nagar, Hata Khansama, Astabal Yahiyaganj, Chidimar Tola, Rastogi Tola, Punjabi Tola,Tadhi Bazar…the residents are facing severe water crisis, poor sanitary conditions and water logging problem due to the non cleaning of nullah in the area. The ward has witnessed severe water logging just 24 hours ago.

RESIDENT OF Raja Bazar Ravi Kumar says, “Just a few hours back, we were walking in knee-deep water on the road. The overflow was due to non-cleaning of the nullah in the ward.”

“We have no sewer line in our area. We have requested corporators for it but he never bothered to solve our problem,” laments Manoj Kumar Rastogi.

Housewife Mansi Dixit complains, “We feel insecure moving at night as streets lights are not functioning. Eve-teasing in the area is increasing with each passing day.” “We are battling severe water crisis in our area. The entire area of Astabal Charbagh and Raja Bazar gets only one hour of water supply in a day that too in odd hours at night. We have to keep awake all night to collect water,” says Manish Singh.

Vimal Sen says: “Poor drains and encroachment on the Raja Bazar road have resulted in water collection even when it’s not raining.”

Replying to the charges, corporator of the ward Naveen  Prakash Rastogi ‘Baba’ says , “ I have changed the look of my ward in the last five years. I
have built new roads. Remember the condition of Raja Bazar- Medical college road five years back? See, how much better it is now.”

He admitted there was severe water problem in the area. “I have done whatever I could to solve the problem. I have changed the water lines in half of the ward.” He said, “If the nullah in the ward is cleaned regularly, problem of water logging is going to persist. When I was a corporator, I had fought for a two safai workers to be placed  permanently in the ward but they have been taken back, resulting in water logging. “This year my wife is contesting the election and I hope she will win with a good margin.”
