The CBI is set to file its first chargesheet in controversial Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case in a special CBI court in Ahmedabad while a status report of the case will be placed before the Gujarat high court division bench on July 4th.
"The chargesheet will be filed on Wednesday in Ahmedabad. It will primarily deal with the encounter incident and those who have executed it," an official part of the investigation said, adding "IPS officials DG Vanjara, GL Singhal and PP Pande, who is absconding will be charged for kidnapping, illegal confinement, murder and destruction of evidence in the case involving murders of four persons."
The agency may not charge sheet the IB special director Rajinder Kumar in the first charge sheet but is likely to throw some light on his role in organizing prior custody of the deceased and also a false intelligence alert that was meant to facilitate the staged killings.
"The probe has revealed that two of the four deceased Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were associated with secessionists groups in Kashmir," the official said. The CBI's claim regarding the two persons would expose a lie peddled by the Gujarat police that they were from Pakistan and had received training about terrorism activities from LeT.
During the detailed probe conducted by the agency at multiple places like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and J&K, the CBI has found that Zeeshan Johar's custody was secured by Ahmedabad crime branch cops from Delhi.
The agency has also established that there was some connection between Javed Sheikh and Amjad Ali Rana, who is suspected to be an informer of some IB officials. "Javed Sheikh was a petty criminal involved in smuggling and counterfeit currency."
Ishrat used to work with Javed and had travelled with him to Utter Pradesh and also in Gujarat in May 2004.
"Ishrat and Javed were picked up by crime branch cops Tarun Barot and NK Amin near Vasad, 75 km from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2004. Then the duo was taken to a farm house in Ahmedabad and on intervening night of 14-15 June, they along with two others were bumped off, describing them as terrorists on a mission to kill Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
A TIMELINE ON ISHRAT JAHAN ENCOUNTER CASE
The CBI chargesheet will also reveal how the cops procured AK 47 rifle that was planted on the deceased. "Rajinder Kumar is responsible for procuring the rifle from his sources. During the probe, it has not found that any of the four persons had carried any such rifle or stock of ammunition as claimed by the police following the encounter," the official added.
