The India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) held a felicitation ceremony for Union Ministers, Governors and Members of Parliament (MPs) in New Delhi on Monday.
Various ministers of state across ministries and the political spectrum including Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Ministry, Salman Khursheed, Minister of State for Corporate and Minority Affairs, Digvijay Singh, general secretary of All India Congress Committee and R.P Singh, Minister of State for Road and Transport were among those present.
Held to congratulate member leaders on their political achievements, Monday’s function also served as an occasion for the centre to reiterate its commitment to preserving and nurturing the religious and cultural diversity of India.
“The IICC draws members from across communities and the political spectrum and simultaneously provides a platform for the airing of diverse views,” said Dr. Abdullah.
Salman Khursheed said, “This is the best platform that we can get to debate and discuss matters with those whom they directly affect — the people.”
Sirajuddin Quereshi, president of the IICC, stressed the need to consolidate the centre’s secular base and appealed to member representatives from various political parties to work for building a stronger India.
