Renowned Islamic scholar and religious leader Maulana Habeeb Rehan sahab died after a prolonged illness due to diabetes.
He was 74. He passed away on Saturday, close aide said.
Maulana was a well-known figure among the Islamic scholars at national as well as international level.
The Maulana who was admired in educational circles had written a number of books.
Maulana was educated from the world's renowned Islamic University Jama-e-Azhar in Egypt and he taught at Libya for many years.
He was conferred the President's award last year.
Maulana was buried at the Takia Qalandershah near Saifia college in the heart of the city.
A large number of people including Islamic scholars, clerics and politicians including Shahar Qazi Abdul Lateef, Mufti Abdur Razzaque Khan, Member All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Arif Masood and MLA Arif Aqueel were present at his funeral.
