WHAT YOU suspected is now official. Rain in July has exceeded expectations in Lucknow. It’s a good 65 per cent more than the normal rain for the month of July last year. It has rained 450 mm in July, against the normal of 394 mm for the month.
With this, the first two months of monsoon had been very good, as it has rained 624 mm from onset of monsoon till July 31, while the normal rain from the onset of monsoon till July 31 is 501 mm. With this, there are two full months of the monsoon left. This is even more significant as the best monsoon time in Lucknow is between August and September, and more towards September, when the monsoon starts withdrawing.
Meanwhile, the forecast for the next few days is that the rain will ease up, but will regain strength thereafter in the whole State.
For statisticians, while in Lucknow the rain surplus was 65 per cent, for East UP it is 20 per cent surplus rain and for the entire State, it’s nine per cent surplus.
