Nearly a week after the detection of evasion of market fees by certain commission agents at Parwanoo Fruit and Vegetable Marketing Complex, a team of income tax department conducted a raid on the premises of Mukund & Company, on Tuesday evening.

The income tax department officials from Chandigarh and Parwanoo arrived at the complex and started search operations. Later, the officials took the computer and related record in their possession.
Surprisingly, shortly after the spread of the news of the raid, several shopkeepers downed their shutters and shifted computers and related records to safe places.

Meanwhile, a team of Solan Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) lead by secretary Bhanu Sharma also visited the fruit and vegetable complex to take stock of the situation.

Under the provision of Himachal Pradesh Agriculture and Marketing Act, the assessment concerning the business transactions of all traders is mandatory. However, APMC officials have not made any assessment for past three to four years thereby bringing their role under scanner.

Sources in APMC revealed that the Tuesday's raid by the income tax sleuths was enough evidence that certain traders were not only evading market fees, but also indulging in unfair practices to mint money.

The recent raids has also detected serious violation of laws, including non-implementation of the act and avoiding of issuing of Q and R forms by certain traders to the growers and retailers to evade the fees.

Confirming the raid, APMC secretary Bhanu Sharma said he has received reports that several traders have shifted their computers and related records to unknown destinations to prevent paying of market fees adding that strict action would be initiated against the offenders.
