Just when you felt the chill, it vanished. The past two weeks has seen Mumbai warm up.

Minimum temperatures were around 20 degrees Celsius and the maximum ones were hovering around 34 degrees Celsius, on Monday — about 4 degrees above normal for this time of the year.

Earlier in the year, day time temperatures were below 30 degrees Celsius and dropped to 15 degrees Celsius at night. The coolest day of the season was on December 31, when the minimum temperature was 12.8 degrees Celsius .

“Temperatures are 4 degrees Celsius above normal because of the western disturbances — a weather system that make the climate cloudy, which prevents temperatures from dropping and increases humidity,” said Sathi Devi, director of the Mumbai meteorological department. And it is going to get hotter in the next two days, with a forecast ofa maximum of 36 degrees.

People are again ridiculing the weather. “Every time I see these brands put up warm clothes as winter display, I laugh,” said Versova resident Krishna Kalra. “It just won’t work in Mumbai. The weather is definitely pleasant but not sweater-type cold.”
