A local band plans to release an album with 15 selected poems of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The album is titled ‘Mukta Akash’ and will be released before the Durga Puja.
Some will have music and is showcased as songs and some will be recitations. The Trinamool Congress chief who had released books and held exhibitions of her paintings now turns a fresh page cutting an album.
“We approached the chief minister with the idea early this year. She showed enthusiasm but told us that she will review our work at every step.
Later we gave her the raw album, which she personally listened, reviewed and suggested changes. She spent time with us over the project and listening to our work,” said Palash, member of the Mahul Abrittir band.
The chief minister chose 15 of her poems for the album, which include ‘Maati’, ‘Nobo Projonmo’, ‘Dhonyo’, ‘Shanti’, ‘Tornedo’, ‘Mrittu’, ‘Obohelito’, ‘Pakriti Maa’ and ‘Sonar Bangla’ among others.
“It is not only just recitation, but recitation with music. We have individually treated each poems with back ground music. We spent three months working for the album,” added Palash.
According to the band, the theme of the poems and the album is nature and ‘good feeling’. The recitation and composition has been done in the band’s studio in Kolkata. This is the first time that Banerjee’s poems figure in an album.
