Designer Rohit Bal is all set to add sizzle to the upcoming Wills India Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2010. He will be the Grand Finale designer for the Week, his second Grand Finale at the WIFW. Bal’s collection for the big day, ‘Yasas’, is inspired by India’s cultural heritage and reflects the splendour of the Golden Peacock, a name India was once known by.
Atul Chand, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC’s Lifestyle Retailing Business Division, says, “This Grand Finale, we wanted an India based theme and Bal’s collection emphasised Indianness throughout.”
FDCI president Sunil Sethi says, “Bal is known for his grand shows. It is his great designs, drama and his personality that make him a perfect choice for the Finale. I also see this as a celebration of coming together of all designers and a veteran like Bal doing the finale will be the best.”
Bal says he has done extensive research of ancient Indian costumes, primarily the Mughal era, for his collection. “I am drawn towards ancient weaves and the revival of all these dying art forms. This is what Yasas is,” he adds.
