Itarsi Municipal Council chairman and a member were killed and three others were injured in a mishap near Jhirnia late on Saturday night.

According to police, the Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) carrying them back from Rajasthan hit a tractor-trolley laden with timber.

Prakash Vallabh Soni, 40, the chairman of Itarsi MC, and the municipal member Kamal Singh, 38, received fatal injuries. They were rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead.

Three other persons, including the driver, Raees Khan, Sheikh Rahman and Jagdish, were also injured in the mishap.
They had gone to Puhskar for pilgrimage and were returning.  The Parvalia police said the MUV driver apparently tried to overtake the tractor-trolley but could not do so because wooden logs jutting out of the trolley obstructed the vehicle.

The logs hit the MUV and broke through its window and in process misbalanced the vehicle. As the MUV was running at a fast speed, the injuries proved fatal to two of them. The police registered a case and begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the mishap.
