Three police personnel have been booked on charges of abduction and rape of a girl, who was staying at Talwara migrant camp in Reasi town near Katra.

Police arrested assistant sub-inspector Harmesh Mehtra and special police officer Karnail Singh while their accomplice Satvir Singh, personal assistant to Reasi senior superintendent of police, escaped.

The girl’s parents filed a report at the police station on September 12. While her parents said she is a minor, officials believe she is at least 18.

The girl was medically examined and produced before the chief judicial magistrate for recording her statement. The accused were charged with Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

Local residents said they had complained to the police against the alleged activities of the three accused. They were involved in similar acts in the past.
