J&K goes global with launch of android-based internet radio

A local FM channel has launched its first android-based internet radio, City J&K, which will be available on all android-based mobile phones across the world.

The head of the android-based internet radio, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, said the objective behind this application was to inform people about Kashmir's culture and heritage.

"Our objective is not only to entertain people, but also to inform them about Kashmir. It is very beneficial for Kashmir. It is a first concept in Kashmir. We believe that we have been successful in launching this," said Bhat.

City J&K will be available on phones having android-based operating systems. One can also download the application.

Head of music programmes, Raja Bilal, said the FM channel would play music of all genres and will place emphasis on Sufi songs, ghazals, songs in Hindi, Urdu and English.

"Nowadays, everybody has android phones. One can download android application and can listen to our FM radio. Our main focus is on entertainment because it is worldwide. We will play Urdu and Kashmiri programmes," said Bilal.

Radio is the only source of information for millions of people, specially those living in rural areas.
