A government school teacher here has been arrested for allegedly molesting a girl student of Class six in Kreeri area of Baramulla district, police said on Thursday.
The accused identified as Mohammad Ashraf Sofi, was nabbed on Weednesday following a complaint lodged by the victim's family, an official said.
He has been booked under sections 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354-A (Physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) of the IPC, he added.
The girl's parent alleged that the teacher had given question paper and answer sheet of the ongoing school examinations to the victim ahead of scheduled date as an allurement.
But the girl kept it at home and went to appear for exam yesterday. She returned from school at 12.30 pm.
"The teacher sent a fifth grade student to our home at 3 pm and asked my daughter to come to school, along with mathematics book," the father said in his complaint.
After she went to school, the teacher took his daughter to a class room. He then forcibly embraced her and tried to molest the girl, the father alleged.
The girl, however, managed to escape from his clutches and narrated the incident to her mother, who informed her husband, police said.
Victim's father took up the matter with the local Mosque committee, demanding to lock the school till the teacher is arrested. Later, the school was re-opened following his arrest.
