J&K police organises state-level marathon

Police organised a state-level marathon, 'run for fun', on Sunday in the age group of five to 85 years, in which 6,000 people, included students participated.

Police organised a state-level marathon, 'run for fun', on Sunday in the age group of five to 85 years, in which 6,000 people, included students participated.

Tanveer Hussain won the full marathon (42 km), in civilan category and received prize of `30,000. Half marathon was bagged by Balvinder Singh. Mandeep Kour won the half-marathon in women's' category, for security personnel.

Riyaz won full marathon in security personnel category, whereas Zafar Ali won the half marathon.
In girl's category, under 14 years, for 6 km race, Tulsi Pandey secured first prize of `8,000. In the same category for boys, Mohammad Saleem of Budgam won the first prize.

Director general of police (DGP) Ashok Prasad said, "Jammu and Kashmir Police have organised several sports events in the winter capital of the state under its civic action programme and people, particularly youth have shown interest in these events."

He added the aim for organising these events was to cultivate interest towards sports among youth.
