The people from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir are rushing to register themselves for the Haj pilgrimage of this year at the Haj House here.

Every day, pilgrims from across the valley queue up to submit their forms with various essential documents to get registered for the once-in-life pilgrimage.

FA Lone, executive officer of the Haj Committee, said they are facing a huge rush of pilgrims with 15,000 registrations having been made already.

"Since the time we have announced about the Haj pilgrimages this year, people have been very enthusiastic. There was a huge rush of pilgrims right from the day one. You may have noticed pilgrims filling forms today as well. The registration began on February 1 and will continue till March 15. So far we have received over 15,000 applications from various districts. There is a great enthusiasm among the people," he said.

During the registration process, the committee checks all the essential documents like passport, photographs, election card, bank receipts, residential proof among a few which are then registered in the computer.

Pilgrims are desperate to be part of this holy journey.

"I have come here for the registration of Haj pilgrimage of 2014. I hope our form gets selected and approved this year. There is work going on at every counter and computerised registration is going on. The officers at the counters are very helpful to the people. We hope that everyone gets a chance to go to Haj. It is the wish of every Muslim to go on a Haj pilgrimage," said a pilgrim, Mohammad Yousuf Khan.
