J&K sex scandal: 2 ex-ministers arrested
While Mir is a Congress MLA from South Kashmir, Mattoo is an independent MLA from Habba Kadal constituency.
CBI on Tuesday arrested former Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir GA Mir and Raman Mattoo in connection with the Kashmir sex scandal, CBI sources said.
While Mir is a Congress MLA from South Kashmir, Mattoo is an independent MLA from Habba Kadal constituency, where the alleged kingpin Sabeena used to stay.
While Mattoo was picked up from Srinagar, Mir was arrested in Delhi.
Mattoo and Mir have been booked under Section 5 of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act for procuring persons for prostitution.
Mattoo and Mir who were ministers in the erstwhile Mufti Mohammed Sayeed government had been named by Sabeena, the alleged kingpin in this sex racket.
The CBI action comes a day after the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had asked them to vigorously investigate the persons named by Sabeena in her statement before the investigating agency.
Jammu and Kashmir Speaker Tara Chand will be informed about the arrests, CBI sources said.
Under Section five of the ITPA, the two, if convicted, will have to undergo three months imprisonment or pay a fine of Rs 20,000 or both.
In a related development, CBI on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for information leading to the arrest of former Additional Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir Anil Sethi wanted in connection with the case.
