Thirty four per cent polling was recorded till one pm in the first phase assembly elections to 26 seats in Jharkhand on Wednesday.

According to election office, polling is expected to pick up in the last two hours.

Prominent among the 470 candidates are former deputy chief minister Stephen Marandi and former assembly speaker Alamgir Alam (both Congress), Suraj Mondal and Hemlal Murmu (both JMM)).
The polling was by and large peaceful, police said.
