A youth left a 22-year-old nine-month pregnant girl after she refused to convert religion.

A local social worker Anju Bhargava took the girl to the Ghamapur police station on Friday night and made her lodge a complaint against Kareen Sheikh. The girl is a resident of Mumbai, while her lover Kareem belongs to Pune as she told the Ghamapur police. They were staying in a rented accommodation in the Kanchghar locality for over past two months.

The reason for both to come to Jabalpur was to get married. They married at the Gayatri temple. The boy has fled with the documents and photographs of the ritual performed at the temple.

Anju Bhargava said the girl earlier went to the Ghamapur police and narrated her sufferings but she was not heard. On Friday, she went with the girl to the police station and made the complaint, she said.

When she contacted the girl’s father in Mumbai, he refused to take her back home. Now, the girl is in last stage of pregnancy. She is new to this place and there is no one to look after her, she said.

The boy too was contacted through some of his friends but there was no response, she said. Ghamapur town inspector SS Chouhan said the complaint had been received and the matter was being investigated.
