Pop singer Michael Jackson’s demands may make some of showbiz’s diva demands seem trivial for organisers of the World Music Awards had to shell out £250,000 to pacify the star.
His requests included hair and make-up, a private jet and 20 first-class and business-class plane tickets for his entourage. Plus hiring out an entire five-star hotel for £50,000 a night and they had to knock down a wall for him too.
"He's got one of the most expensive riders in history. Loads of other hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental, turned him down because they were worried about being besieged by fans,” a source was quoted by the Mirror, as saying.
"They were also nervous about his demands," he added.
Jacko, 48, is now staying at the lavish five-star Hempel Hotel near Hyde Park, where police vans and patrols have cordoned off the area to keep the hundreds of fans chanting his name at bay.
"Yes, it's eccentric but he wants to create a homely environment for them.
He's going to be on stage with about 30 children. He was going to perform the Earth song but changed his mind because of the Jarvis Cocker debacle at the Brits a few years back.
But he will definitely be doing Thriller. That will bring the house down," a source said.
