The inmates of Katghora Sub Jail in Korba district of Chhattishgarh indulge in violence and brickbatting in protest against a surprise inspection by the police, and then took control of parts of the facility on Monday.

The incident occurred when a police team led by CSP RK Sahu visited the Sub jail which has nearly 150 inmates in the evening around 5 PM to inquire about the threatening calls made from the jail by one of the inmates to a businessman residing in Bankimongra area of the district.

According to the sources the inspection team recovered mobile phones and other illegal materials. But the inmates provoked by the jail authorities attacked the raiding team and resorted to heavy brickbatting.

Police personnel including ASI JS Kanwar and a cameraperson Amarjeet Singh accompanying the raiding team have been injured.

The police have cordoned off the prison compound. The Korba SP Himanshu Gupta has initiated a dialogue between the agitating prisoners who are demanding for the return of the video clips shot by the raiding team. The stalemate continues till the last reports came in.
