Angry villagers thrashed two teachers and ransacked a senior government secondary school in Dhod village of south Rajasthan's Bhilwara district on Thursday after a teacher allegedly raped a Class 8 student.

Sub-divisional magistrate Raj Kumar Singh said the accused, Jagdev Prasad Meena, called the 14-year-old girl to the school library on Wednesday and raped her.

The victim's father alleged that another student brought the victim to the library on Jagdev's behest, locked the library from outside and gave the keys to another teacher.

The victim told her family about the assault after she reached home. The district administration has suspended Jagdev and issued ‘awaiting posting orders' to 12 other teachers, including the principal.

Jagdev, who was employed in the school on a temporary basis, is absconding. Dhod, a village dominated by the Meena caste, is 220 km south of Jaipur.

"My daughter had complained several times about the teacher (Jagdev), and I had complained to the school principal, Sojiram Meena," said the victim's father.

"But the principal took the teacher's side as he was from the same community." Teachers allegedly kept the girl in the school till 6.30 pm and forced her to write a letter saying she had no complaint against Jagdev.
