Launching an attack on chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Union minister Jairam Ramesh called for “punah-parivartan” (change again) in West Bengal, on Saturday.

The Union rural development minister was referring to Banerjee’s battle cry of ‘Parivartan’ in the last assembly polls, which indeed helped her trounce the Left after 34 years of rule.

Kickstarting the panchayat poll campaign in the former Maoist stronghold, Lalgarh, the Congress leader alleged Banerjee had failed to bring in development, apart from lacking administrative acumen.

While appealing to the people to test the Congress after the CPM and Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Ramesh said, “Parivartan came in Bengal but there is no development. So, we need Punah parivartan in 2016”.

Ramesh further said the Centre was pumping in large amounts of funds in the three Maoist-affected districts, but they were either not used or were renamed for political gain.

“Trinamool leaders are using harsh words against our PM and calling us a minority government but this minority government will give R300 crore for the benefit of rural women. The state is renaming it as Ananda Dhara. But the Dhara is flowing from the Centre,” he added.

Flanking Ramesh, MoS Adhir Choudhury and Deepa Dasmunshi, too, spared little in attacking Banerjee.

“She is not with the people anymore. She is now only on the Facebook. Now, when she goes to Singur, there is no crowd. The Congress is an elephant, and if a rat thinks it can topple an elephant then it can only keep dreaming,” said Choudhury.
