Police and army arrested a top Jaish-e-Mohammad militant from Sopore area in north Kashmir on Friday evening.
The militant was arrested by army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police from Sopore in Baramulla district.
"Police, CRPF and army have arrested top Jaish militant commander in Sopore," said a Srinagar-based police spokesman.
Official sources said that acting on a specific information, the joint team of SOG and army's 27 RR laid an ambush at Marble village near Yembarzalwari forests. The militant has been identified as Mohammad Sadiq of Khyber Pakhtoon Khwah province in Pakistan.
An AK-47, two magazines, 70 AK rounds and a pouch were recovered from his possession.
Police sources say Sadiq was hiding in the forest and had come out to get food when he was apprehended. Combing operations are on in the area. Police have registered a case.
