Accusing the UPA of manipulating the CBI, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, claimed the ruling party controlled the Central investigating agency during its tenure.
Jaitley was responding to media reports wherein CBI director Ranjit Sinha made a claim, which he retracted later, that the UPA would have been happy if Amit Shah was named in Ishrat Jahan charge sheet. He claimed the denial of the CBI Director was immaterial, since evidence was available with regard to the pliability of the CBI.
“Investigating officers prepared the file with the idea of inculpating or exculpating a particular person. The directors were offered fresh jobs on the eve of retirement. This would contribute to their pliability,” Jaitley wrote in his blog on Sunday.
Jaitley added that a special director who retired recently and took special interest in wanting to implicate Shah in the Ishrat case, was appointed the VC of the Jamia Millia Islamia even before his retirement.
