Union finance and defence minister Arun Jaitley is showing “good recovery with normalisation of all vital organs”, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences said in a medical bulletin released Wednesday.
Jaitley, 61, was admitted to AIIMS’ Cardio-Thoracic Neuro-Sciences Centre with a chest infection Sunday (September 28). He had undergone a planned metabolic surgery to manage his diabetes at Max hospital in Saket on September 2 and was readmitted on September 22 for a post-operative infection.
Jaitley has also started discharging “some official duties” from his hospital room, is exercising regularly and eating well, the bulletin issued by Dr Aarti Vij, professor of hospital administration and additional medical superintendent of the Center, said. It added that the minister “has been advised restricted access for a few days to avoid re-infection”.
Briefly speaking to HT on phone, Jaitley said he had cleared some 50 official files and met senior officials from the two ministries to dispose of urgent work.
It is understood that the minister has been pacing his hospital suite for the past three days and catching up on news on the television.
