Taking a cue from the Jal Satyagraha in Madhya Pradesh, protesters in Kudankulam too hit the sea on Thursday in Idanathakarai - the hub of the ongoing agitation.

Braving the high tide and gushing winds, around 2,000 people, including women and children, entered the sea in the morning and remained there till evening.

Amid chanting of slogans, they formed human chains and pyramids.Although the police were kept away from the area, a Coast Guard aircraft made frequent surveys to see that protesters do not move towards the nuclear power plant, situated 1 km from the venue of the protest.

"We will step up our agitation. The authorities can't turn a blind eye," said PS Jesuraj, spokesman for the movement, adding that the Jal Satyagraha would continue till their demands were met.
