Jalaun cops arrest deputy trade tax commissioner

india Updated: Aug 28, 2006 01:22 IST

THE JALAUN police today arrested deputy commissioner (trade tax) RP Shukla for laxity in the distribution of unemployment allowance cheques to the jobless youths at a function in Orai.

The police had arrested two more accused, district employment officer PP Mishra and district entertainment tax officer Man Singh on Saturday in this connection. CM Mulayam Singh Yadav had issued instructions for suspension of Jhansi commissioner Shankar Agarwal and chief development officer Bhaskar Upadhyaya. These officers were accused of dereliction in duty in the distribution of cheques at the function attended by the chief minister in Orai. The police said further action was being taken in the case.

Issuing stern warning to officers to take the issue seriously the CM today said that due to carelessness and indifference of the officers around 250 youths, who had come to collect the cheques, faced difficulties. He said these officers disappeared from the spot with the cheques, which were recovered after their arrest.

He said CDO, Jalaun Bhaskar Upadhyay instead of controlling the situation told the beneficiaries that cheques would be distributed at Vikas Bhawan later, which created confusion among the youth as they attributed some ulterior motive behind shifting of venue.

The CM has now directed all commissioners and district magistrates that Kanya Vidya Dhan and unemployment allowance would be distributed by organising camps. He said any laxity in this connection would not be tolerated. He said complaints in this connection should be disposed of at the highest level.
